Poplar Plastics, Roman Legion Box Set, circa 1959/60, comprising: 2 x 2 Roman Chariots, 2 x Drivers with Whips, 2 x Mounted Roman Centurions & 6 x Roman Legion figures, including charioteers, which stand upright in special fitments on chariots. Moulded in bright Primary Colours [Red/Blue/Green/Yellow] with Black or White Horses. Some minor storage wear otherwise generally near Mint overall, contained [banded – original royal blue card insert] in a generally Good [some storage wear] colour illustrated set box, with ‘A Poplar Plastic Product – Made in England’ and original price ‘69,00’ [Belgian Francs]. Extremely Rare set, the first example we have seen – great box art – [Provenance: from a collection of old shop stock recently discovered in Belgium, obtained from the original owner’s grandson; the shop having been open between 1956 and 1986].
