Very early circa 1953/54 boxed set of Herald/Zang Horse Guards – 3 mounted and 3 dismounted figures (marked with Herald trumpeter logo and ‘Made in England’) – contained in a plain lift-off lid maroon box with an early Herald Zang logo printed label (some age wear, staining water mark). The back of the box is marked ‘$3.50’ in pencil. The horses are the early two-part cellulose acetate moulds and are in super condition and the inside of the rear legs are stamped ‘Made in’ and ‘England’. Of the three riders, two have early PLASTIC scabbards. The condition of the figures is excellent, with only minor paint loss, and still with the original stringing and plain card insert. Although there is no label, the catalogue number of this set is 6.H.G. – only used for 1953 and ’54 [Provenance: from the late ‘Ray Ellwood’ collection *** very rare and early set, only the second example we have handled since 2015; the other set being Life Guards ***
